What is required to trade Shares at OANDA TMS?

At OANDA TMS, you can buy real shares of many companies listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ exchanges. In our OANDA mobile app, you can browse stocks by sector. We categorized stocks into several industries, such as technology, services, healthcare, and gaming.

On a brokerage account, you can typically buy stocks i.e. you can invest in their value appreciation. If you want to take advantage of potential declines, you can choose stock contracts (CFDs), which allow for short selling.

Keep in mind that stocks are not fractional. This means the smallest number of shares you can buy is 1. However, the minimum order value is 100 USD. If you try to buy shares with a total value less than this amount, you will see the invalid volume message.

You can choose from several types of orders on your Stocks account:

  • Market price: This means you will buy shares at the current available price.

  • Limit price: This means you will buy shares at a price not worse than the price you set in the order. The final price will be equal to or lower than the price you specified. You cannot set a limit price more than 20% away from the current market price. If you try to do so, you will see the invalid price message.

If you already have shares in your portfolio, you can sell them during specific hours:

  • You can place Market price orders during the trading hours.

  • You can place Limit price orders during the order accepting hours.

Your limit order validity (for buying or selling shares you own) automatically expires at the day’s end. You can extend this period by selecting a specific date.

Keep in mind that if you want to sell all of your shares at a limit price, enter the number of all the shares along with the price in the order.

Alternatively, you can sell a portion of your shares. However, if you enter the number of shares exceeding the amount in your portfolio, you will see the long position only message.

After you open an OANDA TMS account, you can create a Stocks account.

In the case of U.S stocks, trading in PLN and EUR accounts is commission-free and the value of each trade will be converted to USD at a current conversion rate. Commissions for trading U.S stocks will only apply for an account maintained in USD. Bear in mind that the minimum value of one trade should be USD 100. Besides commission-free trading, you will have access to the following functionalities:

  1. By investing in stocks at OANDA TMS Brokers, you will participate in all events such as dividends or stock splits.

  2. Stock purchases can take place during the traditional operating hours of the US stock exchange. However, you have the option to place buy limit orders during the extended hours. When you place a limit order to buy, for example, 100 shares of Netflix at USD 490 per share, it means that you want to buy shares not higher than USD 490 each.

  3. The My Marketwatch panel on our mobile app provides information on the current price for the selected stocks. Daily volatility is shown as percentages. Each transaction is outlined clearly.
