Do you support trading on MetaTrader 4 (MT4)?

As of 7th October 2024, we do not support trading on MetaTrader 4 (MT4).

We strongly encourage all clients to use MetaTrader 5 (MT5) sub-accounts and trade on the OANDA mobile app, MT5 apps or TradingView.

Since 2016, MetaQuotes has stopped developing and upgrading the MT4 platform. For this reason we made a decision to stop offering MT4 and instead focus on enhancing the trading experience on the advanced MT5 platform.

  • Expanded Asset Classes: MT5 supports Share CFDs, giving you access to over 1500 instruments, including the major US companies such as Apple, Nvidia, Google and more

  • Advanced Technical Analysis: MT5 provides more built-in technical indicators, timeframes, and graphical objects, giving you deeper analytical capabilities

  • Improved Backtesting: MT5's strategy tester is more powerful and efficient, offering multi-threaded backtesting for faster optimization

  • OrderClosed An instruction to buy or sell an instrument under the specified conditions Types and Execution: MT5 offers additional order types, and allows for partial order fills

  • Modern Programming Language: MT5 uses the newer MQL5 programming language, which supports object-oriented programming and multi-threading for faster and more flexible development of custom indicators and expert advisors.

  • Integrated Economic Calendar: MT5 has a built-in economic calendar, making it easier to stay on top of market-moving events

  • Integration: MT5 connects to OANDA's own proprietary mobile app and TradingView, giving you a unified trading experience.

If you had an MT4 live account with us, we would have migrated it to MT5 for you. Refer to our login guide to get started.

  1. Your account information such as your account history, plus any balance, credits, open orders and/or open positions would be migrated.

  2. Your historical statements won’t be migrated.

  3. Any active EAs or signals won’t be imported. MQL5 is an evolution of MQL4, but it's not backward compatible. This means that your EA written in MQL4 won't run on the MT5 platform without modifications.

If you had an MT4 demo account with us, it would have been closed by us. You can open a new MT5 demo account.
